I stand with Unity

I have served on the WTU Executive Board since 2016. During that time I have worked with a wide range amazing educators, who I know care deeply about the Union. But too often I watched as the Board shied away from questioning the Presidents whose slate we ran on, and rarely disagreed with them.

We need an Executive Board who will act as a Check on the President, not a rubber stamp.

It is time to elect board members who understand that members should be put first, not by "servicing" them alone, but by giving them the information and agency to make decisions for the union itself. Unions are meant to be governed from the bottom up, not the top down. The Executive Board should be supporting what the Members and the Rep Assembly create, not voting their decisions down.

The Union begins with US. That is why I support the Unity Slate.

The Unity slate is made up of members who understand that to do this work right we all have to roll up our sleeves and get involved. This is a group who have been doing the organizing work in their schools, participating in the Building Representative Assemblies, writing and passing motions, and they want to make sure our union is accountable to us and including us in the decision making from start to finish. They will be transparent, restart dormant committees that open up decision making to members, and demand that the Executive Board respect the will of the Representative Assembly and the Membership when votes are taken.

Voting for the Unity slate will ensure that there are varying perspectives and voices present on the WTU Executive Board who do not feel beholden to any one President, but instead feel beholden to the membership.

Unity does not mean blindly following a leader. It means working together, hearing varying perspectives, having tough discussions and letting our members make the necessary decisions we need to make from strategy to contract negotiating points. More eyes and more voices equals more power. Stand with me and vote Unity.
